Anyone who knows me online known that I love, love, love ebooks. But reading this, I had a feeling I rarely get -- that this was a book I needed to own, and needed to own in paper. I think it's because it evoked my growing up years so acutely -- not just because it's a word perfect depiction of that era, but because reading it gave me a feeling that I used to get when I was a teenager and read books like [b:I Capture the Castle|31122|I Capture the Castle|Dodie Smith|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1312011462s/31122.jpg|950769], that feeling that this was a special, special book that would always be in my life. I used to call them the books, unconsciously imitating Sherlock Holmes, and I spent years seeking them out. And I think I fell into romance as a genre because it came closest to filling that hole; the books were always romantic. But then I read a book like this and remember what it was really about.
