One of the recurring fantasies expressed by romance novels is the incredibly dangerous hero who is slavishly devoted to the heroine and of course would never hurt her. Singh's Angel series goes to a far more interesting place, creating a relationship in which the power imbalance is astronomical and can be genuinely frightening. This one didn't do a lot for me, though -- in the way of series featuring the same primary romance pairing, there's a lot of inner monologues about their emotions and a lot of sex, and I found it kind of dull. I was amused by noticing a recurring homage to the "In Death" series, and looking out for all the similarities. But on the whole, I'm glad that the next book in the series will focus on a new couple.
