Blessed Isle - Alex Beecroft The beginning of this novella reminded of the famous quote about "emotion recollected in tranquility." While blissfully observing his lover sleep, Harry Thompson begins a journal of past events -- which will be frequently interrupted by Garnet sticking his own point of view in. It's an harrowing, sometimes grisly story, lightened by the byplay the two insert as they read each others' narratives and even make some discoveries about their shared past. I found the narrative enchanting, and very strong on character and atmosphere for such a short novella, though it feels more like an adventure story than a romance.
