Mariana - Susanna Kearsley, Carolyn Bonnyman (I'm putting my impressions in spoilers, because they might influence the way people read the book.)Oh, this is so, so clever. All through the story I found it hard to invest in the romance, because it seemed like I was doomed to be disappointed in the end. And then it ended in exactly the way I wanted it to, the way the author had subtly led me. Awesome job, Ms. Kearsley! I had a little trouble getting into this narration, which is in a very quiet, very uppercrust English accent -- like most Americans, I tend to think of myself as loving British accents, but for some reason that one almost always turns me off an audiobook. But other characters with different accents quickly got into the story and it became much more appealing.
