Minding Frankie

Minding Frankie - Maeve Binchy, Sile Bermingham A well done audio, with gorgeous Irish accents, made this book more entertaining than I suspect it would have been if I’d read it in print. It uses a lot of Binchy’s usual formulas -- the young woman who gives up everything for a worthless, unfaithful boyfriend; the miracle worker older woman who knows how to fix everyone’s lives -- in a story that’s gossipy and stretched out, without much actually happening. There are several interesting points of conflict, none of which ever go anywhere. If you’re fond of Binchy, you might enjoy this as a chance to catch up on a lot -- and I do mean a lot -- of characters from previous books, but I don’t think it has much else to recommend it.
