Gifts of Love: Holiday Spirit/Surrender
Two enjoyable historical novellas. In "Holiday Spirit" by Kay Hooper, two estranged lovers are reunited through witnessing a ghostly tragedy that strangely parallels their own romance. Not the most original story ever, but tender and effective. "Surrender" by Lisa Kleypas is about the rocky first months of marriage between Laura, a member of the Boston upper-crust and Jason, a self-made Irish millionaire; wildly different backgrounds, Laura's inexperience, and Jason's low self-esteem keep them from seeing that their marriage is more than an exchange of money for position. It's a good theme, but Kleypas does better with longer novels, I think.
